Palazzo Feltrinelli (1898-1899), built as the private home of Giuseppe Feltrinelli, dominates Piazza Vittorio Veneto.

It was designed by Alberico Belgiojoso, but some sources attribute the work to Francesco Solmi, who also designed the cemetery in Gargnano, reminiscent of Milan’s Monumentale.

The main body of Palazzo Feltrinelli is a parallelepiped and very imposing. The entrance is impressive, with its architecture coordinated with the central atrium, which takes light from the roof. The building has taken on historical importance due to its use during the Italian Social Republic (1943-1945).

Like other Gargnanese and Gardesana buildings, it was requisitioned by the Fascist government, which adapted the Palazzo as the headquarters of Benito Mussolini, providing it with Italian and German surveillance. The Palazzo is now a branch of the University of Milan. Used as an international conference centre, in summer it hosts Italian language courses for students from all over the world.
